Toppings 101: Add Some Pop to Your Tea

When you check out our exciting, delicious kits, we won’t be surprised if you have a hard time taking your pick from the bunch. As sweet-tooths ourselves, we’ve worked hard to create a range of unique, fruity dessert-like beverages and concoctions that are perfect for you to whip up at home.

Our kits come with the option to add pearls (also known as boba) or jelly for extra flavour and texture.

If you're new to experiencing the distinct textures of this exotic treat, read on to learn more about what you can add to really make this a flavour sensation through the use of mouth-watering toppings.

Delicious Toppings to Tempt Your Tastebuds

You can add a touch of sweetness to your drink by adding various boba and jellies, but how do you know what to use and when?

If you're unfamiliar with these toppings, you’ll find the pearls are chewy and squishy, the jelly is soft and fruity, with the popping variety is bursting with flavour. Here are some of our taste sensations to choose from.

  1. Popping Pearls

Also referred to as ‘bursting boba’ or ‘popping juice balls’, these blissful bubbles 'pop' when you bite into them, hence their name.

Made from seaweed extract and fruit juice, these little flavour bombs aren’t overly sweet, so they’re perfect for adding to bubble tea and frozen yoghurt. These are a popular choice with our Lamington Inspired Bubble Tea and Strawberry Fruit Tea DIY kits.

  1. Tapioca Boba

By far, tapioca balls are a sure favourite with bubble tea lovers – and it’s easy to see why, as they’re considered to be the topping that started the craze. These balls of tapioca starch are generally cooked in brown sugar to add just the right level of delicious sweetness.

They’re squishy and chewy to eat. Not only do they combine well with milk tea, but they’re also great in smoothies and frozen drinks. We especially love combining these tasty additions to our Green Apple Fruit Tea DIY kit.

  1. Jelly

Normally, most people don't think of jelly straight away when it comes to our bubble tea kits unless it's a favourite of theirs. However, jelly is fast becoming one of the most popular toppings, especially when paired with our Coconut Milk Tea kit. These are cut into long cubes and have a soft and fruity texture, so they’re a nice change to other toppings in our selection.
